"Oh Yes Cool Great „

In “Appearance in Super System”, Robert Estermann raises questions about the conditions in which art is made, as a form of action based on aesthetic speculation. With the help of some lightweight props, Estermann and his assistant Gregg Arthur Griffin will hold a series of scheduled events in the form of performative lectures in the Collins Park and at the nearby beach, as well as taking part in numerous encounters with individual people during Art Basel Miami Beach. These include “Appearances,” in which individuals are asked to figure out and to perform a subtle gesture or a movement of their body that they have never done before, as a “rite of passage” to the realization of themselves as speculative beings. All these events will be documented in the blog appearanceinsupersystem.info.
Known for his drawings, performances, and installations, Estermann regards the gesture as having the sense of a radical claim, and also urgency, as it becomes an increasingly versatile aesthetic tool of translation between artistic, social, and scientific expression. In an age of touch sensitive electronic devices, human gestures are supposed to have more power than ever before. What happens when people reinvest the same powerful gestures back into the physical space?

A deciduously sloughed blossom petal parachute lands; some thumbprint whorl tattoos blossom petal; horseshoe surrounds thumbprint whorl and blossom petal; electrical circuitry escapes horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal; artery veins entangle electrical circuitry, horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal; a Persian carpet weaves out of artery veins, electrical circuitry, horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal; a sunken garden picture frames Persian carpet, artery veins, electrical circuitry, horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal; a labyrinthine maze encloses sunken garden, Persian carpet, artery veins, electrical circuitry, horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal; an amphitheatre spreads outside labyrinthine maze, sunken garden, Persian carpet, artery veins, electrical circuitry, horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal. Thereafter, amphitheatre arena leads to labyrinthine maze encircling sunken garden overlooking Persian carpet made from artery veins intertwined with electrical circuitry exiting horseshoe around thumbprint whorl deposited upon blossom petal. Common-law-of-averages and split differences cause amphitheatre arena, labyrinthine maze, sunken garden, Persian carpet, artery veins, electrical circuitry, horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal to compare, exchange and morph. Time passes, leaving amphitheatre arena, labyrinthine maze, sunken garden, Persian carpet, artery veins, electrical circuitry, horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal to submerge, bury and overgrow, underneath successive layers of earth, water, stone, vegetation and debris. Hidden and ruined foundations, archaeological remains and forensic evidence leftover from amphitheatre arena, labyrinthine maze, sunken garden, Persian carpet, artery veins, electrical circuitry, horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal that generously provide contoured furrows, allowing scope and guidelines for agricultural ploughing and each long barrow mound to follow along, also serving as regimentation and choreography of avenues of trees and floral borders. Hummingbird aviary and butterfly farm work gangs burrow deep, scooping out subterranean catacombic warrens which faithfully retrace the steps of amphitheatre arena, labyrinthine maze, sunken garden, Persian carpet, artery veins, electrical circuitry, horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal, as searching roots fill up the cavities. Hummingbird aviary and butterfly farm work gangs resurface, building exoskeletal filament armatures and scaffolding supports for megalithic, multi-storey, honeycomb ziggurats with railway tracks, dormitory bunkers, shelving units, igloo kennels and doll's house sentry boxes; forever reaching further out, facing towards every direction, straying away from amphitheatre arena, labyrinthine maze, sunken garden, Persian carpet, artery veins, electrical circuitry, horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal, while side walls and roof-tops sprout foliate bowers and creeping tendrils. Ramps, staircases, Jacob's ladders and split levels connecting the decks, perpetual-motion grand-prix ten-commandment domino-toppling Olympic marathons and dancing tarantulas spin cobwebs that umbilically link chandeliers together; all obediently adhere to newfound straying from amphitheatre arena, labyrinthine maze, sunken garden, Persian carpet, artery veins, electrical circuitry, horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal. Upon advancement inside, the brain unfurls from both the back and the front of the head, oncoming cables feed through and curl up to immediately replace the brain that has just been pulled out and lain out to trail behind, once the brain is extracted, its entrails slide en route to a secret H.Q., joining forces with the others in a writhing Gordian knot; amphitheatre arena, labyrinthine maze, sunken garden, Persian carpet, artery veins, electrical circuitry, horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal direct, steer, compact and remodel the bodywork of the brain. At the same time, rippling waves sent out by the brain contribute to assist the progress and development of amphitheatre arena, labyrinthine maze, sunken garden, Persian carpet, artery veins, electrical circuitry, horseshoe, thumbprint whorl and blossom petal.
