백남준과 한류의 연결, 백남준 포럼 발제자 현대 미술 작가 - 잉고 바움가르텐 교수

백남준 탄생 79주기를 기념하여 'The World of Nam June Paik'이란 주제로 지난 11월11일 심포지엄이 개최된 가운데, 포럼에서 백남준 작가와의 인연, 독일에서의 영향력 등을 발표해 주목받은 잉고 바움가르텐 교수. 산업화 이후 한국 현대 사회에서의 대중문화 이해와 위치를 재조명하고 특히, 세계적인 문화적인 아이콘이자 한국의 이미지를 예술적 작품으로 승화시킨 비디오 아트의 창시자, 백남준에 대해 집중 조명하기 위해 마련된 백남준 국제 심포지엄에는 여러 예술 저명인사가 참여해 '백남준'의 위력을 다시 한 번 확인할 수 있었는데..  그중 백남준과의 남다른 인연이 있는 현대미술작가, 잉고 바움가르텐 교수는 서부 독일에서 태어나 파리, 영국, 도쿄 등 세계 각지를 돌아다니며 미술을 공부, 현재는 홍익대학교 미술학부 조교수로 2년째 재직 중이다.  그의 작품은 '시각 인류학'이라고 표현될 정도로 일상생활에서 볼 수 있는 장소와 사물들을 접근, 사회의 탐험을 그림과 회화작품으로 전달하고자 함과 동시에 세부적으로 정밀하게 확대해 표현하기도 한다. 그는 뛰어나고 비범한 대상들 보다는 조금 더 평범하고 전형적인 대상을 찾아 페인트 기법으로 개인적인 표현하기를 선호 한다는데.. 오늘 하트 투 하트에서는 잉고 바움가르텐 교수와 함께 백남준 작가와의 인연과 영향,  또 현대미술 작가로서의 미술세계와 미술철학 등에 대해 이야기 나눠보도록 한다. On November 11th, an international symposium titled "The World of Nam June Paik" was held to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Paik Nam-June's birth. At the symposium, professor Ingo Baumgarten gained attention by giving a presentation on Paik Nam-June's influence in Germany and his relation with the artist. This international symposium on Paik Nam-June was prepared in order to review the understanding and position of pop culture in Korean modern society after industrialization and especially focus on Paik Nam-June, the founder of video art and a world-famous cultural icon who sublimated Korean images into his artworks. Many renowned people from the art community participated in this forum and showed how powerful Paik Nam-june's influence is. Among those people, contemporary artist and professor Ingo Baumgarten was the onw who had a special connection with artist Paik Nam-june. He was born in western Germany, studied art in many countries and cities including Paris, England, and Tokyo, and now working as a professor at Hongik University in the Department of Painting. His works are well described with the term 'Visual Anthropology', which is the exploration of the everyday life, culture and society with the methods of participating observation, and it’s transmission into images and artworks. Instead of the outstanding extraordinary surroundings, Ingo Baumgarten picks the more normal and typical objects. He uses painting as his preferred medium because painting is a very personal way of expression.
