제프 게이블 (혹은 '토마스 스톨페럴'로도 알려졌다, 1968년 생)은 미국 작가로 뉴욕 브루클린에 거주하며 활동한다.
그의 작업 중에는 작은 사이즈의 초상화나 인물 형상 작업이 있는데 이는 상상에서 비롯된 이미지로, 휘갈겨 쓴 필체의 제목과 함께 한다. 또한 문학을 포함한 여러 종류의 글을 다양한 형식으로 번역하는 작업이 전시되기도 하였다.
슈테판 츠바이크의 소설 『Vierundzwanzig Stunden aus dem Leben einer Frau』(한 여자의 일생에서 24시간) 을 만화 형식으로 각색하여 연필로 그린 대형 사이즈 책이나 토마스 만의 『Gladius Dei』를번역하고 각색한 시청각물은 여러 차례 전시되었고 지속적으로 보여주고 있다. 게이블의 번역 작업은 대체로 내용에 대한 문학적인 묘사이기는 하나 일반적인 편집 방식이나 형식과 소리의 조화로움을 거부한다.
게이블은 드로잉과 번역 작업 외에도 흑연을 주로 사용한 장소 특정적인 작업, 즉 벽에 그린 드로잉과 이미지로도 알려져 있다. 그의 이미지들은 대체로 어색해 보이는 경향이 있는데 그건 그가 크기를 무시하며 치수를 재는 등의 어떠한 준비를 하지 않기 때문이다. 벽이나 다른 외관의 표면에 그려진 이미지들이 함유하고 있는 이야기들은 그리는 과정과 함께 발전된다. 또한 이야기들은 공간의 물리적 특성이나 전시의 여러 조건들에 의해 제안되거나 파생되는데 즉, 시간적 제약, 주어진 공간, 전시의 내용, 운송 계획이나 문제, 그리고 작가의 최근 도서목록 등이 그것이다.
제프 게이블은 킴킴갤러리(Kim Kim Gallery)에서 개최되는 개인전《More of the Best of Firmin Graf Salawar dej Stries》을 위해 방한하였다.

Jeff Gabel, aka Thomas Stolperer, (*1968) is an American artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY.
Gabel's work typically involves small-scale portraits or figures rendered from imagination, accompanied by scrawled captions. Gabel has also exhibited translations of different types of writing, primarily literature, into various formats.
His translated adaptation of the novella "Vierundzwanzig Stunden aus dem Leben einer Frau" (Twenty-four Hours in the Life of a Woman) by Stephan Zweig, rendered in pencil in large-scale comic book format, and his audio/visual translation/adaptation of "Gladius Dei" by Thomas Mann have been exhibited and reviewed repeatedly. Gabel's translations typically attempt a relatively literal portrayal of the content, while largely ignoring editorial conventions and appropriateness of style and voice.
In addition to the small drawings and translations, Gabel is known for his site-specific drawings and stories on walls, usually in graphite. The images themselves tend to be awkward or inept, as Gabel employs no measurements or other preparation work, regardless of size. The stories which accompany the images on the walls or other surfaces typically develop as a drawing progresses, and are often suggested or driven by the physical spaces, and by conditions relating to the respective exhibitions, such as time limit, allotted space, exhibition content, travel logistics & problems, the artist’s recent readings, etc.
He is currently in South Korea on the occasion of his exhibition "More of the Best of Firmin Graf Salawar dej Stries" at Kim Kim Gallery.
