구민자, 〈정통의 맛: 매운 해물 맛 라면〉퍼포먼스
구민자는 우리에게 익숙한 일상과 그곳에서 비롯되는 질문으로부터 출발하는 퍼포먼스를 바탕으로 사진, 영상, 설치, 드로잉 등 다양한 매체로 작업하는 작가입니다. 근래에는 특정 맥락과 역사, 의미, 인간과의 관계를 드러내는 매개로서의 음식을 다루고 있습니다.
구민자 작가의 '정통의 맛' 연작(2014-)은 시중에서 판매하는 컵라면, 햇반, 두부, 레토르트 식품 등의 가공식품 포장에 예시로 삽입된 이미지를 시각적으로 완벽하게 구현하는 작업입니다.
불가능할 것만 같은 사진 속 음식의 이미지를 시각적으로 충실히 재현하기 위해서는 오랜 기술적인 훈련과 연구, 노력이 필요합니다.
〈정통의 맛: 매운 해물맛 라면〉은 2019년 홍콩과 호주에서 시연되었으며, 한국에서는 경기도 미술관에서 킴킴 갤러리가 기획한 <트라우마 자랑>의 연계로 12월 6일에 선보였습니다.
Kim Kim Gallery presents Gu Minja, The Authentic Quality: Spicy Seafood Noodle
Gu Minja works across various media—including photography, video, installation, and drawing—based on performances that originate from questions arising within familiar everyday life. Recently, she has been working with food as a medium that reveals specific contexts, histories, meanings, and relationships with human beings.
Gu Minja’s The Authentic Quality series(2014–) consists of works that perfectly replicate the example images printed on the packaging of processed foods sold on the market, such as instant cup noodles, ready-to-eat rice, tofu, and retort foods.
Long periods of technical training, research, and effort are required to faithfully reproduce the seemingly impossible images of food presented in these photographs.
The Authentic Quality: Spicy Seafood Noodle was demonstrated in Hong Kong and Australia in 2019 and in Korea, it was introduced on Dec. 6th in connection with “Trauma Bragging" curated by Kim Kim Gallery at the Gyeonggi Museum of Art.
벨라슬라바세이 파노라마, 〈캘리포니아의 거대한 움직이는 거울〉 퍼포먼스
로스앤젤레스의 벨라슬라바세이 파노라마는 독특한 시각적 경험을 제작하고 발표하는 것에 주력하는 전시장, 공연장, 정원을 갖춘 특별한 기관입니다.
2005년, 〈캘리포니아의 거대한 움직이는 거울〉(1853)의 대본이 메인주의 사코 박물관의 수장고에서 발견되어 벨라슬라바세이 파노라마의 설립자이자 디렉터인 사라 벨라스에게 전달되었습니다. 벨라슬라바세이 파노라마는 이미지 스크롤이 유실되고 대본만 남은 작품을 완벽하게 되살리는 작업에 가장 적합한 기관이었습니다. 2010년 사라 벨라스는 무빙 파노라마 퍼포먼스인 〈캘리포니아의 거대한 움직이는 거울〉을 크랭킹 장치, 내레이션, 음악을 포함해 성공적으로 복원해 냈습니다. 사라 벨라스는 내한하여 경기도 미술관에서 킴킴 갤러리가 기획한 <트라우마 자랑>의 연계로 12월 6일에 선보였습니다.
The Velaslavasay Panorama, The Grand Moving Mirror of California
The Velaslavasay Panorama in Los Angeles is a historic exhibition hall, theatre, and garden dedicated to the production and presentation of unusual visual experiences. In 2005, the script (dated 1853) for The Grand Moving Mirror of California was discovered in storage at the Saco Museum in Maine and reached Sara Velas, the founder and director of the Velaslavasay Panorama. Because the painted panorama scroll itself had been lost and only the script remained, the Velaslavasay Panorama was the ideal institution to attempt a full recreation of the work included the painting with the cranking apparatus, narration, and music.
Sara Velas visited Korea and performed on December 6 at the Gyeonggi Museum of Art in connection with "Trauma Bragging" curated by Kim Kim Gallery.
