《우순옥_ 예술은 이미 당신의 마음속에 있다》

이 전시는 회화, 드로잉, 설치, 영상 등 우순옥의 대표작을 중심으로 그의 예술 세계를 조망합니다. 예술을 하나의 대상이 아니라 삶과 사유가 끊임없이 생성되는 과정으로 이해했던 그의 작업은 

한국 현대미술에 새로운 가능성을 제시하며 오늘날에도 깊은 울림을 전하고 있습니다.

우순옥(U Sunok, 1958–2023)은 한국 현대미술에서 개념미술의 독자적인 영역을 개척한 작가입니다. 

이화여대와 독일 뒤셀도르프 쿤스트아카데미(Kunstakademie Düsseldorf)에서 수학한 그는 보이는 것과 보이지 않는 것, 존재와 부재의 관계를 섬세하게 사유하며, 삶과 예술이 만나는 지점에서 자신만의 조형 언어를 구축해 왔습니다.

성곡미술관은 2023년 우리 곁을 떠난 우순옥 작가를 기억하며, 1980년대 초기 작업부터 작고 직전의 대표작에 이르기까지 그의 작품 세계를 조망하는 회고전을 마련하였습니다. 이번 전시는 한 예술가가 평생에 걸쳐 이어온 사유와 실천의 궤적을 되짚어 보고, 그가 한국 현대미술에 남긴 의미와 예술적 유산을 새롭게 조명하는 자리입니다. 우순옥 작가의 작품이 오늘의 우리에게 어떤 질문을 던지고, 어떤 울림으로 다가오는지 함께 나누고자 합니다.

U Sunok (1958–2023) was an artist who carved out a distinctive place for conceptual art within Korean contemporary art. After studying at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, she developed a unique artistic language at the intersection of art and life, delicately reflecting on the relationship between the visible and the invisible, presence and absence.

In memory of the artist, who passed away in 2023, Sungkok Art Museum presents a retrospective spanning from her early works of the 1980s to the major works created shortly before her death. The exhibition traces the intellectual and artistic journey of a remarkable artist while reconsidering the significance of her enduring contribution to Korean contemporary art. It also offers an opportunity to reflect on the questions her work continues to raise and the resonance it holds for us today.
