Liberating contemporary art from the confines of fine art, drawing and craft to present works in eight sections by other subjects: Language and Literature; Social Studies; Philosophy; Mathematics; Science; Music; Phys. Ed.; plus a mixed section titled Transdisciplinary, the exhibition will offer encounters with unknown realms and opportunities to learn about them, transforming the art museum into an open classroom for lessons on the world. Encompassing both large and smaller galleries, ”WORLD CLASSROOM” will unfold across an exhilarating 1,800 square meters-plus of display area.

Since the 1990s, contemporary art has come to be considered from various historical and cultural perspectives, not only in Europe and the United States, but also in the world. It has gone far beyond the framework of arts and crafts that are considered in school classes, and has become a comprehensive area that is common to all subjects such as Japanese language, arithmetic, science, and social studies. At the cutting edge of each academic field, researchers explore the "unknown" of the world, dig up history, accumulate new discoveries and inventions from the past to the future, and enrich our understanding of the world. I'm here. The attitude of contemporary artists to creatively transcend our stereotypes is also connected to this quest for "I don't know." Contemporary art museums can be said to be “classrooms of the world” where you can encounter and learn about such an unknown world.
This exhibition is an attempt to encounter a never-before-seen and unknown world from a variety of perspectives, using subjects learned at school as a gateway to contemporary art. The exhibition section is divided into "National Language", "Society", "Philosophy", "Arithmetic", "Science", "Music", "Physical Education", and "General", but in fact each work is divided into multiple subjects. and areas. In addition, for the first time as a special exhibition at the museum, more than half of the approximately 150 works on display will be from the Mori Art Museum collection, while new works for this exhibition will also be on display. ” is created.
