ARARIO GALLERY participate in #AsiaNOW 2025, at Monnaie de Paris, France.

ARARIO GALLERY present works by four Korean artists — KIM Soun-Gui (b. 1946), LEE Jinju (b. 1980), Yohan HÀN (b. 1983), and CHA Hyeonwook (b. 1987). The presentation brings together artists from different generations whose practices traverse tradition and experimentation, painting and performance, materiality and contemplation. Through this dialogue, we hope to present and explore how East Asian aesthetics, rooted in tradition, continue to evolve and expand within the context of contemporary art. Each artist reinterprets tradition through a personal and philosophical lens, articulating introspection and narrative through painting, photography, and installation.

A pioneer of multidisciplinary art from Korea, multimedia artist Soungui KIM's interest in Eastern and Western philosophies and her experimentation with various media has led KIM to create experiential and situational work. Among the artist’s nonconforming attitudes, the idea of “I-Hua일화 (一畫)” through archery, and “Saekdong” (색동 traditional Korean multicolored pattern) takes on an important role.

김순기가 일하는 미디어 중에서, 사진은 중요한 위치를 차지한다. <Forêt 1>, <Forêt 2>는 1980년대부터 그녀는 핀홀 카메라로 작업 중 일부로 작가가 우연적 행복을 찾고 눈으로 볼 수 없는 무한함을 발견하려 했다. 장시간의 촬영 중 다양한 사건을 마주하며 작가는 자아를 버리고, 실수의 땅에서 자유로울 수 있었다. ‘바보사진’이라 일컫는 이 작업은 혼란스럽고 모호한데, 작가는 핀홀 카메라를 사용해 자신의 눈으로 세상을 만나고 세상의 모든 사물들과 풍경들이 있는 그대로, 다시 말해 인생에서 가장 진실하고 필수적인 순간들을 만나게 한다.

Arario Gallery is delighted to announce our participation in 'OVR: 20c', the latest iteration of Art Basel’s Online Viewing Room dedicated to works from the 20th century. For this occasion, Arario Gallery will present the early pinhole photography series by renowned Korean artist Soungui Kim. In the late 1980s, Kim started working with a pinhole camera, which produced unsophisticated, raw, and lazy images, therefore calling them “foolish photography”. This presentation will provide a critical glimpse into the artist's examination of the importance of everyday and mundane lives.

아라리오갤러리는 2020년 10월 28일부터 10월 31일까지 진행되는 아트바젤 온라인 뷰잉룸 <OVR: 20c>에 참가합니다. 아트바젤의 두 번째 온라인 뷰잉룸 에디션은 1900년에서 1999년 사이에 만들어진 20세기 근현대 작품들로 기획되었으며, 아라리오갤러리는 김순기의 초기 사진 작품을 선보일 예정입니다. 김순기가 1980년대 후반부터 작업하기 시작한 이 사진 연작은 작가가 손수 만든 바늘구멍(핀홀) 카메라를 장시간 노출시켜 포착한 주변의 풍경을 담아냅니다. "바보 사진"이라고 김순기가 칭하기도 하는 이 작품들을 통해 스쳐 지나가는 일상의 아름다움을 예술로 승화시키는 작가의 작업세계를 만나볼 수 있습니다.

[서울=뉴스핌] 이현경 기자 = 아라리오갤러리는 코로나19 여파로 실현되지 못한 아트바젤 홍콩 출품작을 대상으로 온·오프라인 전시를 동시에 진행한다. 전시기간은 오는 3월 3~22일까이다. 이번 전시에는 아트바젤 홍콩 출품작 일부와 캐비넷(Kabinett) 섹터에 선정된 김순기 작가의 작품이 소개된다. 작품 정보와 구매 문의는 오는 3월 3일부터 3월 22일까지 아라리오갤러리 홈페이지에서 가능하다.
갤러리 관람(오프라인 전시 관람)은 '프라이빗 전시' 형태로 이뤄지며, 3월 3일부터 아라리오갤러리 홈페이지에서 사전예약을 받는다. 물론 사전예약 없이 현장 방문도 가능하다. 이 경우 관람 대기 시간이 발생할 수 있다. 갤러리 관계자는 "관람시 직원과 다른 방문객의 안전을 위해 예약 방문객의 마스크 착용을 철저히 요구하며 기타 소독, 비상 제품들은 갤러리에서 상시 준비해 코로나19 사태에 대비하고 있다"고 전했다. '온라인 전시'는 중국 상하이에 위치한 아라리오갤러리 전시장을 위해 진행된 프로젝트였다. 2월 초 전시 예정이던 조각 그룹전 'Beyond the Sculpture_The Unrealized'가 중국 당국의 코로나 확산 방지 일환으로 허가 받지 못하고 취소된 상황에서 새로운 방식으로 작품을 감상할 방법을 모색하며 진행됐다. 아라리오갤러리 상하이 전시 'Beyond the Sculpture_The Unrealized'도 3월 3일부터 4월 30일까지 온라인에서 전시가 진행된다.

이번 UE11에서 가장 오랫동안 구경한 부스. 온갖 물건들에 한 남성의 얼굴이 강렬하게 붙어 있는 것이 너무 시선을 잡아 끌어 어떤 여성분이 주인장에게 설명을 듣고 있는 틈을 타 엿들어 보았더랜다. 인도와 캄보디아에서 결혼 이주해 온 친구들에게 레시피를 전수 받아 식기와 책에 고스란히 적어두었다고. 또 필요한 재료들 및 식기구를 함께 팔고 있는 것이었다. 그 음식의 맛이 어떠할지 참으로 궁금해지는, 제품이 단지 판매품이 아니라 하나의 작품으로 느껴지는 색다른 부스였다...

1년전 루시와 라이후엉을 만나 5 가지 인도네시아와 캄보디아 음식을 배웠는데, 당시 두 사람이 쓴 수기 레시피로 요리책을 만들었습니다. 두 사람의 손글씨체와 크기를 바탕으로 한 책이라서 모양이 독특합니다.
사진의 그릇은, 1년전 두 사람에게 배운 요리를 구민자가 요리해 나눠 먹는 오픈 키친을 했는데, 그 날을 위해 두사람의 손글씨체를 그릇에 전사해서만들었습니다. 이 식기를 언리미티드 에디션에서 판매합니다.
